Putting it all together - Seminar Project

Hey everyone, hope that most of you didn't get too discouraged when you couldn't find my email earlier (please send it soon!!!). I just wanted to add that I really need everyone's full name or at least last first name & last initial so that I can put it on our title page and make sure that you all get credit for your parts. Don't worry, I'm not a stalker & I promise I won't look you up on facebook!
Can't wait to receive the rest of your papers, thanks, Ashleigh.

Ashleigh's email

Hey guys, I just checked the blog & noticed that my post didn't show up. So sorry, I'm going to try it again...

Re: Ashleigh's email address: to_little@hotmail.com

Hello, here's my email so that you can all send me your portion of the project. Please write "Eng 383" or something along those lines so that I know who you are. Also, please include your full name somewhere on you paper so that I can document it within the project to show that everyone's completed their parts. As well, I'm not quite sure how everyone's going to present their group's portion, so, whoever is in charge of doing the smaller intros & conclusions for each aspect of our topic can you please include a title to go along with it so that I can group things together better. Of course, that means that each person within the smaller groups should also include that title somewhere on the paper so that I know which one is which.
Thanks and good luck, Ashleigh.

Info from Seminar on Oct 25 2007

During our group discussions in seminar today regarding our evaluation
project, we disscussed something that I thought I should share with the rest
of you. I hope this info is not redundant.
We were talking about the nature of this project and whether it should be
arranged as an essay, like our small group projects, or as an anthology. We
figured that because of all of the entries the project would work better as
an anthology with the 5 different groups as chapter headings. I think it
might be easier for us all if we create 5 smaller essays within one
anthology. This means that we will need someone to volunteer within each
group to do an intro and conclusion. We also need a few volunteers to take
on the intro/conclusion for the entire anthology. I think we sort of talked
about this a few classes ago and said that maybe Kal and i (Ashleigh) would
take on the editing/overseeing and putting it all together part of the
project. While I don't mind doing some of that work, I don't think that I
will have enough time to do an intro/conclusion. So, if anyone would like to
take part in that job please feel free.
Also, just a reminder, we have a seminar evaluation of each others' work
that is due on November the 8th. I'm not quite sure what we have to do for
this, whether it be writing something before class or during class. Either
way, we have to evaluate each other. I guess this means that everyone should
try to have something accomplished before the 8th.
I hope that this info is relevant for you all and also hope that you check
the blog in order to read it since I know there haven't been any postings
recently!

Evaluation of Artistic Merit Notes from Sep 20th

                                                                  20/09/2007

Here are the 5 different topics we came up with in class.

1. Stratification of artistic medium

-what we feel makes a good comic

2. Purposeful art

            -tells you something

-ie: Contract w/Godàstyle changes throughout story

3. Moral values?

-comics good/bad? Do they function as moral?

4. Language/Literary significance

            -Mythology/Greek Pantheon represented as heroes

5. Level of complexity/junk

-reading it once & getting the point

                        -some have deeper meanings

            -argue for/against comics as junk

            -high literature vs. graphic novels

            -criteria of art: dimension=art à juxtaposition=dimension

elaboration is art

intentionality (if artist says it's art then it is)

intensity of emotion (not melodrama) / authenticity of emotion

challenge

craftsmanship

These are the groups

1.      Candice, Michelle, Sarah, Heather

2.      Marcy, Wendy, Ashleigh

3.      Elise, Shemez, Victoria, Theresa

4.      Heather, Simon, Kelvie, Yilun, Kalervo, Kaitlyn

5.      Kalervo, Joseph, Brianna, Mary

As far as I know we are all to do a little research & either add our thoughts/ideas & examples of texts to the blog or bring them to class.
